LAURA SMITH - DIRECTOR

Laura is an award-winning film and television director. She is developing a slate of genre feature films as a director and writer/director including horror MONSTER- officially selected for the CANNES FILM FESTIVAL/ FRONTIÈRES Co-Production Market at FANTASIA; a supernatural thriller set in rural England (with finance from CREATIVE EUROPE) and an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's classic horror THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER (BFI). Her first feature script- a psychological thriller set in the mining towns of outback Australia- won the BBC FILMS/ NATIONAL FILM AND TELEVISION SCHOOL Development Award.
Her short films include commissions from CHANNEL 4 and the BRITISH FILM INSTITUTE. They were filmed on location in the UK, Germany and Australia and have screened worldwide at cinemas, festivals and on television, including BFI LONDON FILM FESTIVAL, EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, the CURZON and VUE cinema chains and CHANNEL 4 television.
She has directed over thirty episodes of television drama, commissioned in the UK and sold worldwide, including BBC prime-time hospital drama CASUALTY, working on all three series of BBC teen-drama THE CUT, BBC children's supernatural action adventure series THE SPARTICLE MYSTERY and CHANNEL 4's multi BAFTA winning HOLLYOAKS.
She is a graduate of the UK's NATIONAL FILM AND TELEVISION SCHOOL and an alumnus of the prestigious GUIDING LIGHTS mentoring programme, FILM LONDON's Micromarket and CREATIVE EUROPE's Passion to Market feature development schemes.
